ROCKFORD, Ill. — October officially swings the fall season into the Stateline area
Celebrating the season as well, Klehm Arboretum welcomes guests to Autumn
at the Arboretum Family Fun Day on Sunday, Oct. 8.
Featuring free admission, the event includes kids' games, crafts, a straw
bale maze, live music and more.
All across the gardens, different activities invite attendees to enjoy the
fall spirit.
One such experience will be the Kids' Pumpkin Decorating Contest.
After bringing a carved or decorated pumpkin from home (no pumpkins available at Klehm), participants have the chance to win prizes and titles.
Judging categories will be best carved pumpkin (one for templated used, one without) and best decorated (not carved). Ages will be split into 7 and under, 8 to 13-year-olds and 14 to 18-year-olds.
Klehm asks to bring prepared pumpkins to the Garden Pavilion between 10-11 A.M. Guests then will vote for their favorite between 11 A.M. and 12:30 P.M. Winners will be announced at 1:15 P.M. at the Fountain Garden stage – participants must be present to win.
Other fall engagements Sunday will be a doggy costume contest at 1:30 P.M., a cake walk and a fall bulb fundraiser.
