CARPENTERSVILLE, Ill. (WTVO) — UPDATE: Dive crews are searching a lake in connection with the disappearance of 17-year-old Brissa Romero, who was last seen in Vernon Hills.
Dive teams are now among the many responders searching a retention pond southwest of Route 21 and Route 60 in Vernon Hills, reported NBC5 Helicopter Reporter Mike Lorber on X.
“Vernon Hills Police and Carpentersville Police have refined their search area for missing Brissa Romero and are currently on scene in the area of Executive Way and Lakeview Parkway in Vernon Hills, IL. This is an ongoing investigation, and the public is requested to avoid the area,” said Carpentersville officials in a Facebook post on Monday.
Romero’s vehicle was reportedly found in the retention pond, according to FOX 32.
Vernon Hills and Carpentersville Police will hold a joint news conference at 4 p.m. to provide updates on the search for the missing teen.
“Vernon Hills and Carpentersville Police will be conducting a joint news conference today at 4 PM reference recent developments in the case of missing Brissa Romero including the likely recovery of her Nissan Rogue,” officials said in a Facebook post.

Police are asking the public for assistance in locating a 17-year-old girl who went missing in Vernon Hills.
Brissa Romero has been missing since Monday, December 4, according to the Carpentersville Police Department. Romero is reportedly 5’0’’ in height and weighs approximately 115 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.
The 17-year-old was last seen on survellience video visiting a family member in Des Plaines. She is believed to have been driving to a work party in a gray 2008 Nissan Rogue (Illinois license plate CZ64618) at the time of her disappearance. Her last location is believed to be near a bowling alley where the party was held in Vernon Hills. No partygoers reported seeing Romero at the bowling alley.
Police are actively investigating the Vernon Hills area that is believed to be Romero’s last known location.
