ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced traffic from westbound U.S. 20 to southbound Interstate 39 will be relocated to a new ramp starting the evening of August 14th.
The ramp is part of the $98.8 million project to rebuild the I-39/U.S. 20 interchange in Rockford.
The new ramp will have one lane open initially and the second will open in the next few weeks.
In the meantime, motorists may still experience delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area.
IDOT plans to improve more than 3,200 miles of highway and nearly 9 million square feet of bridge deck with the continuation of Rebuild Illinois. $33.2 billion is also being invested in transportation.
In the past 5 years, Rebuild Illinois has already completed $16 billion worth of improvements on 6,541 miles of highway, 686 bridges and 986 additional safety improvements.
