Suspect in Waffle House shooting near Ohio State campus arrested in Canal Winchester

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting outside a Waffle House near the Ohio State University Campus has been arrested.

According to Michael Black with the United States Marshal’s Office, Southern District of Ohio, Jaquan Curry, 20, was arrested in Canal Winchester on Byrn Moor Lane by the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team. He is charged in the murder of 38-year-old Ronald Diggs, who was shot and killed April 29.

“Once we locate them, we do everything we can to apprehend them safely without any violent confrontation, as is what took place this morning in Canal Winchester,” Black said. “He did not come out right away. We had to call him out numerous times. He was out. He was hiding inside this apartment complex. But after a while he did comply and come out without incident.”

Diggs was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead at 3:06 a.m. Two other people were injured during the fight and treated at a local hospital.

Curry, who was also charged with using weapons while intoxicated in Dec. 2022, had a warrant for his arrest issued the day of the shooting. Curry has an arrangement scheduled for Friday morning.
