(KRON) — A recent Internet trend involves people depositing fraudulent
checks into their Chase Bank accounts and withdrawing the money before it
is flagged. The bank says the trend is “fraud, plain and simple.”The “Chase glitch” entails depositing a faulty check — the “glitch” is that the bank doesn’t immediately flag it. This allows the user to withdraw the money even though it is not legitimate.
Social media videos showed people who allegedly used the glitch parading around with sums of cash.
“We are aware of this incident, and it has been addressed. Regardless of what you see online, depositing a fraudulent check and withdrawing the funds from your account is fraud, plain and simple,” a Chase spokesperson told KRON4.
Some users have found out the hard way. Other videos on social media appear to show users deep in debt after Chase retroactively takes the money back.
