ROCKFORD — Galaxy Hair Studio has revealed the location of its new downtown salon and spa suites as it prepares to relocate it Roscoe shop.
The studio’s owner, Michelle Waller, told the Rock River Current earlier this month that she was committed to moving to downtown, although it wouldn’t be in the space at 333 E. State St. where coming soon signs had hung for months.
This week she said a lease was signed and officially announced it would move to 120 S. First St., behind the Rockford IceHogs offices and adjacent to the Old City Hall apartments. The goal is to open March 1.
“The space is amazing. I’m very excited for the space itself,” Waller said. “The renovations have already begun. We’re moving as fast as possible on this.”
Galaxy will have suite rental for stylists, barbers, lash techs, makeup artists, massage therapists and other spa services. That allows upstart entrepreneurs to grow their business inside the studio.
“They’ll have their own ownership. So it will be like them having their own business without having to have a full salon,” Waller said. “We’re very excited to be able to offer a little different environment than just chair rental.”
The First Street space was previously home to IMEG Corp. engineering and consulting firm, which made a short move to 401 E. State St. There were plans in 2021 for the space to become a barbering and beauty school but those never came to fruition.
